The “2015 Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Universities IT Project Competition” was held in Macao Polytechnic Institute to promote regional cooperation and joint development.

To foster cooperation in tertiary education and information technology between Macao and the Pearl River Delta Region (PDR), the “2015 Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Universities IT Project Competition”, jointly organized by Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) and Macao Computer Society, and co-organized by computer societies across China, was taken place in Macao between July 3-4, 2015. The competition is intended to promote the development of education in the field of information technology in Macao, and to help cultivate the best IT talents for the PDR’s communities and economies. The competition attracts tens of thousands of college students to participate each year and MPI hopes that through it Macao can serve as a platform for “exchanges, friendships, mutual learning, and improvements” for cooperation and exchanges for college students in the PDR. This will further enhance cooperation within the PDR, leading to cooperative interaction for joint development and expanding the space for regional development.

Held in Macao for the first time, the “Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Universities IT Project Competition” is an established competition for IT. This is the 10th competition, in a series that has been uniquely important to both industry and academia. Participants come from 13 cities and regions within the PDR, including Guangdong, Jiangxi, Fujian, Hunan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guangxi, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao. The semi-finals of the competition are held respectively in the aforementioned regions while the grand final will take place in a different city or region within the PDR.

This year it was held in Macao and jointly-organized by MPI and Macao Computer Society. Attracting tens of thousands of student participants from more than two hundred colleges and universities it has been widely acknowledged as a flagship competition in terms of both scale and quality. The experience helps college students from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao to exchange ideas and develop their professional competence. Winning teams from each region this year will compete for the championship in Macao. As there were 52 teams taking part in the grand final the competition was the largest and most competitive to have been held so far.

The co-organizers of the “2015 Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Universities IT Project Competition” are the Computer Societies of Guangdong Province, Hainan Province, Yunnan Province, Sichuan Province, Hunan Province, Jiangxi Province, Guangxi Province, Chongqing, the Internet Professional Association and the Taiwan Association for Web Intelligence Consortium.
